Generation12 presents Yona van Mansfeld: "Elusive Clashing"
Jul 20, 2011 at 05:03 PM
Muscles, lines, skin and curves – starting from a fascination for a slender muscled, feminine body, Yona van Mansfeld focuses on these bodylines to accentuate the beautiful feminine silhouette. The tension between the designs and the body is built up by adding some estranging, body-reforming elements, affording strength to the silhouette.
The ‘Elusive clashing’ collection is based on contrasting elements: color contrasts and a clash between modern and ornamented fashion. The collection’s starting-point is the work of Krijn de Koning, an artist who works with bright colors in modern objects and puts them in a classical environment. Another source of inspiration is a lavishly neo-rococo wall covered with a modern glass-metal construction in Berlin. The clash between the primary colors red, blue and yellow next to black and beige, the rigid and flexible fabrics, the constructed and draped elements and the structure of ornamented woven motives next to smooth plain fabrics – all are combined in one garment. If the garments have classical archetypical references, they cannot be categorized in an archetypical way. Some garments look like two pieces clashed together, but not in a bold way. They elusively become one piece. The designs are expressive but modest. They are characterized by intensity, persistence, continuity and rhythm with a provocative edge. Yona van Mansfeld graduated cum laude from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) in 2009, earning a BA degree in Fashion Design. During her BA she did her internship at Haider Ackermann. This year she graduated from the ArtEZ Fashion Masters.
Marga Weimans is a fashion house which explorers and pushes the borders of fashion by incorporating elements from various other creative disciplines, such as architecture, industrial design and fine arts. The designer graduated at the prestigious Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts with her collection "The Power Of My Dreams' in 2005.
This collection received international recognition by winning an I-D award, named after the organizing fashion magazine, and its purchase and exhibition by the Groninger Museum. Thereafter, Marga Weimans has presented several collections in Paris and participated in numerous projects, both of which were displayed in various exhibitions throughout The Netherlands and abroad. As a starting point of the design process, the designer relies on her surroundings, her ambitions and dreams, and the development of her life and fashion house. The resulting creations are characterized by a highly innovative use of materials; wood, iron, resin, semi-precious stones and fiberglass, for instance, have all been used in her creations together with self-developed fabrics and prints.
Amsterdam Fashion Week: Marie Clair presents Claes Iversen
Claes Iversen is considered one of the most talented young designers in the Netherlands. His collections, which continuously balance between ready-to-wear and haute couture, are modern re-interpretations of classic women's garments without being a cliché. Iversen is known for his ultra feminine silhouettes, luxurious use of materials and an eye for details combined with a large dose of understated non-Dutch glamour.
Iversen graduated at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague in 2006. His ambition was already recognized during his 3rd year when he won the ‘BLVD Modeprijs' and was offered an internship at Viktor & Rolf. In 2008 Iversen received his master's degree at the Fashion Institute Arnhem while presenting his graduation collection at Paris Fashion Week. In that same year he presented his first collection as an independent designer at Amsterdam Fashion Week and won the ‘Marie Claire Prix de la Mode Award' in the category ‘Best National Designer'.
