Dolly Rogers - "the best creative folk in town" presents Spinnin' Yarns Print E-mail
Jul 29, 2011 at 05:59 PM

Spinnin' Yarns is a storytelling project initiated by Dolly Rogers, culminating in a limited edition series of silk screened t-shirt prints by Anne Britt, graduating student from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI).

The t-shirt is an icon that has become ensconced in popular culture as a medium for wearable art and a soapbox for self proclamation. Long before social media, it stood as an off-line profile page to express your likes and dislikes, your criticisms and comments to the world.

"Through interviews, photographs and illustrations we reveal the heart and soul of Amsterdam and connect with the people who live, laugh, create, fall in love, explore and share our city." (Spinnin' Yarns)

A select location; the exhibition will be displayed in the Skylounge on the 11th floor of the newly built Mint Hotel. Enjoy panoramic views overlooking the stunning cityscape while getting a closer insight into the stories of the people who make this city home.

Spinnin' Yarns invites you to join them for the opening of Spinnin' Yarns on Thursday the 4th of August from 7-10pm. The exhibition runs until the 25th August 2011.

Marga Weimans, Amsterdam Fashion week July 2012

Marga Weimans

Marga Weimans is a fashion house which explorers and pushes the borders of fashion by incorporating elements from various other creative disciplines, such as architecture, industrial design and fine arts. The designer graduated at the prestigious Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts with her collection "The Power Of My Dreams' in 2005.

This collection received international recognition by winning an I-D award, named after the organizing fashion magazine, and its purchase and exhibition by the Groninger Museum. Thereafter, Marga Weimans has presented several collections in Paris and participated in numerous projects, both of which were displayed in various exhibitions throughout The Netherlands and abroad. As a starting point of the design process, the designer relies on her surroundings, her ambitions and dreams, and the development of her life and fashion house.  The resulting creations are characterized by a highly innovative use of materials; wood, iron, resin, semi-precious stones and fiberglass, for instance, have all been used in her creations together with self-developed fabrics and prints.

Amsterdam Fashion Week: Marie Clair presents Claes Iversen

Claes Iversen is considered one of the most talented young designers in the Netherlands. His collections, which continuously balance between ready-to-wear and haute couture, are modern re-interpretations of classic women's garments without being a cliché. Iversen is known for his ultra feminine silhouettes, luxurious use of materials and an eye for details combined with a large dose of understated non-Dutch glamour.

Iversen graduated at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague in 2006. His ambition was already recognized during his 3rd year when he won the ‘BLVD Modeprijs' and was offered an internship at Viktor & Rolf. In 2008 Iversen received his master's degree at the Fashion Institute Arnhem while presenting his graduation collection at Paris Fashion Week. In that same year he presented his first collection as an independent designer at Amsterdam Fashion Week and won the ‘Marie Claire Prix de la Mode Award' in the category ‘Best National Designer'.

For Spijkers en Spijkers this is the era where their muses where born, independent thinkers with a mind of their own.

With this occiput in mind Spijkers en Spijkers created their SIS line to be a more accessible line to carry out their vision and draw an opportunity to enlarge their audience in the Netherlands and abroad. The Art-deco influences and the graphic which are key for the spijkers en spijkers style can be seen as a laboratory for the diffusion line SiS. The SIS collection is covered with the same aura and has become an asset to the main line.
