Once again, fashion week struts into Amsterdam bringing the city out of the dark and shining a light upon all things fashion. Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW), summer edition, is happening July 19th through the 28th at the Westergasfabriek area.
Beginning in 2004, AIFW started because they wanted to put Amsterdam on the map as a “sparkling and international oriented fashion city”. Fashion week happens twice a year in Amsterdam and includes a full schedule of catwalk shows, trade fairs, presentations, lectures, and, of course, parties.
Not only is a mélange of top labels included in the lineup, but up and coming talent also found their way to the catwalk. Names included are, but not limited to: JEROEN VanTuyl, Jan Taminiau, Oilily, Ivo Mittelmeyer, Lichting 2008, Frans Molenaar Prijs 2008, Individuals by AMFI, Antoine Peters, Monique Collignon, Iris van Herpen, Haruco~Vert, Daite by Tessa Koops, N?N BY KIM, MLY, Django Steenbakker, EAH!, Brillant, Blue Blood, Claes Iversen en Percy Irausquin. The nominees of the Frans Molenaar Price are: Maarten van der Horst, Lifu Hsiao, Elsien Gringhuis, Nina Heo, and Sanne Schrijver en Danny Cremers.
Since these shows are only accessible by invitation to professionals, Amsterdam Spoke is here to provide you with pictures from the front row. If these private pictures leave you wanting more, join in the AIFW DOWN TOWN program that is open to the public including some exhibitions, shows, launches, the shop window contest, and parties. All of these open-to-the-public events are organized in collaboration with museums, galleries, shops, and clubs.
Fortis will be the main sponser and partner of AIFW. AIFW is supported by the following partners; Redken, Maybelline New York, Heineken, NS, Moet & Chandon, Amsterdam Airport Area, JCDecaux, Evian, Enorm, Torres, Lavazza, Amsterdam Partners, and the City of Amsterdam.
