Bali is an Indonesian island on the western end of the Lesser Sunda Islands. Its capital is the city of Denpasar in the south. Visitors tend to flock to Kuta, Sanur, and Jimbaran, all southern coastal towns, but the central town of Ubud and other parts of Bali are equally compelling. Gleaming white and black sand beaches ring the island's shores, lapped gently by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Bali's rainforests are home to hundreds of species of rare birds as well as monkeys, bats, wild cats, and other creatures.
