On July 14th, Sanne Schepers, graduate from ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, won Lichting 2011 supported by G-Star RAW. In a spectacular catwalk show, 14 fashion graduates presented their collection to national and international fashion experts. These experts elected Schepers to be the upcoming fashion talent of the Netherlands. The G-Star RAW Talent Award was presented to Schepers by Remco de Nijs, G-Star RAW PR Manager and Collection Stylist. Schepers received a monetary prize of € 10,000 and the opportunity to contribute her talents in the international catwalk show of G-Star RAW in Berlin.

The winning collection of Sanne Schepers is based on the principle of a twinset. Schepers was inspired by the idea of a ‘two-in-one’ garment; two separate parts that only make sense when combining two pieces. She developed an innovative concept, making it possible to wear the designs in four different manners. The silhouettes in the collection are minimal and simple, though garments have been created in an almost mathematical manner. Tailored details and an interesting colour pallet give the collection extra depth.

The winner was chosen by a varied group of fashion experts and an internationally renowned panel. This year, the panel is formed by Professor Shelley Fox (Parsons NYC, stylist Catherine Baba (Vogue, Chanel, Balmain), Romain Brau and Anna Kushnerova (founders of RA 13) and designer Michael van der Ham.
Shelley Fox: “I was impressed by the individuality of each of the designers”. Catherine Baba was surprised by the strong play of proportion and workmanship in the collections. Romain Brau and Anna Kushnerova: “We keep looking for ‘craziness’ in fashion, something we see in Dutch design especially in an interesting use of colours and in the awareness of the cultural roots.”Michael van der Ham advises the designers to stay true to and further develop their own signature style.”
Lichting is the fashion industry prize that is awarded to the most promising fashion graduate in the Netherlands. The concept is simple: the best graduates of the 7 Dutch fashion academies in one central catwalk show presenting their collection to the critical fashion industry.
Lichting is an initiative from Amsterdam International Fashion Week, HTNK fashion recruitment & consultancy and Premsela – the Dutch Platform for Design and Fashion – in collaboration with G-Star RAW.
