Chambres des Canaux: The Tolerant Home Celebrates the 400th Anniversary of the Amsterdam Canals

From 1 to 17 November 2013, twenty iconic locations alongside Amsterdam canals, including the mayor’s official residence, will turn into exhibition space for the very best of the international contemporary art scene, including Marlene Dumas, Joep van Lieshout, Germaine Kruip, David Claerbout, Jan Rothuizen, Robert Zandvliet, Ina van Zyl and Fiona Tan.

The works included in the exhibition are selected by the guest curator Siebe Tettero and all belong to more than 15 artists, actively connected to Amsterdam and the city’s long-standing tradition of tolerance – the theme of Chambres des Canaux.

The exhibition lays focus on two related themes: the renowned tolerant nature of Amsterdam and the initial development of the Canal Ring, 400 years ago this year.
